My first day teaching Kaiut Yoga.
Woke up at 3:30am with some nervousness. No biggie, a little nervousness is healthy, keeps the senses alert. But this one had the first signs of a migraine onset.
That pain pill was out of the question. While it works its magic, it will also put me out for the next few hours and I was not going to miss my first class.
So I was stuck with what turned into a full 30 hour recovery.
But my, the fruits of teaching Kaiut Yoga.
I had rented the yoga room and these were all personal invites. This included a 12 year old who had had a few minutes of a very private neck posture and some energy alignments with me prior. And it had freed up her neck noticeably.
What I did not know at the time, this girl had had neck pain for years and no therapy nor chiropractor could help her with it. Not even her Mom was allowed to touch her neck.
So here she was in an all adult class, bringing her mom. Her Mom had been resistant to the idea of any exercise, a complete workaholic, on the phone and go 24/7. She showed up.
And not only that, she wants to come back.
This hour of deep introspective, sensation and quiet focus on the present moment, while mostly uncomfortable to the senses, also brings relief in just being with the discomfort. To be held with others in it. This is what we do as teachers - allow for spaciousness to occur to bring an opening to new ways of being.
A few hours later I hear the report of a very different woman, another mother showing up. One that has allowed herself to soften, to be kinder. Her natural state of being.
And the 12 year old had started to bathe the dog at 6:45 AM, clean the kitchen and whole downstairs completely And fix breakfast for everyone. Unheard of.
This is just to show that a bit of neck opening can lead to beautiful shifts of being, of relating with ourselves and others.
Then there is the mid 70 year old whose body looked all twisted and I just held her feet in Shavasana.
Her therapist, whom she saw after our Kaiut session, shared: “I have never felt such a sweet touch in my whole life”. And he saw the next level of twisted contortion showing up in her body. She had noticed something happening in her right side while being held during Kaiut class. Now they both are letting it lead them into a movement of renewed unrecognized ability for her.
And the tall gentleman, who liked the class but thought not much had happened. He saw the same therapist after. They went into an exercise that he had performed many times (25 years) before, yet never was able to come at it from the right area or source of movement in his body. Kaboom - what was that? A whole new way of conscious movement was available. “Could it have been just from one class”, he wondered? “Well, I had immense change happening after just one class”, the therapist said.
This my dear friends in Kaiut crime, is just to show a bit of what can happen during a Kaiut Yoga class. One that was not even led at my full ability. One that was not timed accurately. I had time left, so I put a neck pose in.
It was all perfect.
